The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) has been conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) since 2006 as an entrance qualification for the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program. The Council has established the CoA (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983 and 2020, with approval from the Central Government under the Architects Act, 1972 (Sections 21 & 45).
According to these regulations, aspiring candidates must clear an Aptitude Test in Architecture, which can be either the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) or NATA, administered by the CoA. However, the responsibility for granting admissions lies with the respective State/UT authorities and institutions, which evaluate candidates based on their NATA score and other eligibility criteria set by the CoA and relevant authorities.
NATA serves as an assessment tool of an applicant's architectural aptitude using various testing methods. It measures skills such as cognitive abilities, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, and critical thinking, along with knowledge acquired over time.
To accommodate a larger number of aspirants, the CoA will be conducting NATA-2025 for admission to recognized architectural institutions for the 2025-2026 academic year. The test will take place on selected Fridays and Saturdays, in two sessions, from March to June 2025
